Canadian SERP Rules Changed and How Compass Can Help

Michelle Brown - Thursday, January 26, 2012

The Compass Canada Business Intelligence January update was released this week and I thought it was a good time to remind everyone of the SERP rule changes that took affect on January 13, 2012.  You may have received a news bulletin via email from Compass earlier this month explaining the changes and how they may affect mailing into Canada.  For those who missed the bulletin here is a recap.

Canada Post has enhanced its specifications for its Software Evaluation and Recognition Program (SERP) used to certify Canadian Address Accuracy.  These changes could cause a decrease in address accuracy scores for MFDU (multi-family dwelling unit) record that were previously accepted as accurate.

As a result of the new guidelines, Canada Post could apply additional postage charges to your mailing if you fail to meet the 95% minimum accuracy score.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • Compass Marketing has taken pre-emptive action on our Canadian Business and Canadian Consumer databases to segment addresses that may lower address accuracy scores.  Make sure to request 'Mailable' addresses on your counts and orders through our client services team (Team Alpha), or select 'Mailable' addresses when running counts on the Compass List Directory to ensure that your file maintains the address accuracy levels necessary under the new guidelines.
  • If you maintain a customer file with Canadian addresses, list hygiene is more important than ever.  Call us today for a quote on updating your Canadian customer data.
